° Did you know…? °
…
the difference between the South-facing slope and the North-facing slope?
Obviously,
one is facing South and the other one North which gives quite different durations
of sunshine,
especially in winter when the sun is very low in the sky.
This has also an impact on the day temperature. Consequently, the altitudes of vegetation levels differ from the exposed slope to the underexposed one. Vegetation will grow in higher altitude on the warmer slope. The difference of the daily sunshine duration can make one flower blossom on the South-facing slope while the same flower on the ‘cold’ slope will blossom only 2 weeks later. |

You will notice that the North-facing slope is covered by trees while the South-facing slope
(more sunshine and then drier ground) is covered with alpine grass, fields and bushes.
